"2018 was the second year of a five-year pilot project to reintroduce wild bison to Banff National Park. This year’s highlight saw Parks Canada release the small herd of bison (31 animals) from the soft release pasture into the 1200 km2 reintroduction zone. More calves were subsequently born since the release and two bulls were lost to dispersal. At the close of 2018 the herd in the reintroduction zone numbered 34 animals"--Introduction, page 5.
