Ninth census of Canada, 1951, instructions for field supervisors .: CS98-1951I-4E-PDF
"As Field Supervisor you are responsible, under the Census Commissioner, for the conduct, completion and quality of the Census in the area assigned to you. The organization and taking of a census is a vast undertaking which, if it is to be carried through to successful completion, must be co-ordinated in all its parts. As Field Supervisor you are part of a team, the other members of which are the enumerators on the one hand, and Commissioners and officials of the Dominion Bureau of Statistics on the other. Success can only be achieved by the utmost co-operation of all. Your responsibilities may be divided roughly into two major parts: (1) duties prior to enumeration; (2) duties during and after enumeration. In order to discharge these duties effectively, you must be thoroughly familiar with the Enumeration Manual, the Training Manual and the following instructions"--p. [1]
