"The number of lithium battery air shipments has increased in the past decade and continues to increase due to increased global demand in many electrical applications. A better understanding of the shipping environment, including the mechanical and environmental stresses experienced during transport, is necessary to help assess the risk posed by lithium batteries during the shipping cycle. This will enable effective risk mitigation strategies for air shipments of products in various segments of the supply chain"--Executive summary, p. 9.
