Proceedings of the third International Mobile Satellite Conference IMSC '93 : June 16-18, 1993, Pasadena, California / Co-sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration / Jet Propulsion... : C2-264/1993E-PDF
"Satellite-based mobile communications systems provide voice and data communications to users over a vast geographic area. The users may communicate via mobile or hand-held terminals, which may also provide access to terrestrial cellular communications services. While the first and second International Mobile Satellite Conferences (Pasadena, 1988 and Ottawa, 1990) mostly concentrated on technical advances, this Third IMSC also focuses on the increasing worldwide commercial activities in Mobile Satellite Services. Because of the large service areas provided by such systems - up to and including global coverage - it is important to consider political and regulatory issues in addition to technical and user requirements issues. The approximately 100 papers included here cover sessions in 11 areas: the direct broadcast of audio programming from satellites; spacecraft technology; regulatory and policy considerations; hybrid networks for personal and mobile applications; advanced system concepts and analysis; user requirements and applications; current and planned systems; propagation; mobile terminal technology; modulation, coding and multiple access; and mobile antenna technology. Representatives from about 20 countries are expected to attend IMSC '93"--Abstract, page v.
