Official Government of Canada publications are catalogued at no cost to departments and agencies. The public may access digital publications through our searchable online catalogue.
Eligible publications
A publication is a stable information product with lasting value created by or for the Government of Canada. It is available to the public or Government of Canada employees through any channel and in any format, including print, digital, audio, and video. Examples: corporate reports, policies, infographics, manuals, maps.
This includes:
- corporate reports such as:
- financial reports
- departmental results reports
- departmental plans
- annual reports
- accessibility plans
- audit and evaluation reports
- journals, newsletters, and newspapers
- educational resources
- guides and handbooks
- standalone infographics
Collaborative publications
Works authored in partnership with other governments or private organizations are eligible for inclusion in our collection. This also applies to works written by research or consulting firms on behalf of the Government of Canada. Ensure that the Government of Canada/King’s Printer owns the rights to the content (copyright holder).
This may include works co-published by:
- provincial, territorial or international governments and Indigenous nations
- not-for-profit organizations, research institutes or universities and colleges
Items not catalogued
Government of Canada Publications does not provide publication numbers for, or catalogue:
- purely promotional or short-lived items including:
- calendars
- news releases
- advertising
- backgrounders
- forms and presentation decks
- databases, datasets, spreadsheets, and XML files
